4. Covenant
A. Love and Follow
Understanding the need of different roles and seasons for every relationship, the APC internship is designed around a personal mentoring model, this type of centuries old model requires specific things from the mentor and those being mentored.  The intern will be given a wide range of ministry opportunities within the scope of APC and its related ministries. APC offers a broad representation of ministry areas. Each intern is encouraged to explore the areas where they can acquire knowledge and expertise in specific ministry areas.

B. Lean and Follow
APC internship will offer intern the dual aspects of leadership: Lead and follow. The great leaders are not only of leading but also of following. Based upon the trust of the intern and mentor, the intern will challenge and stretch to follow and develop the leadership potential that is still in their early stages of development.

C. Trust
A key Component in the intern relationship is Trust. We may teach what we know. But, we reproduce what we are. Only as we trust those who are pouring into our lives can we ask others to do the same. APC internship offers not only learning skills but also building life together. Each Mentor takes on the task of seeking the best for the intern and their development to the fullest potential for the kingdom in their unique giftedness.  The Mentor will provide experiences, insights and ministry opportunities which foster growth in an atmosphere of preparation, challenge, and Love.

D. Ministry Planning-Team building
The program will offer interns how to build teams. Ministry involves many people in many faceted events. Identifying talents, recruiting player, delegation and empowerment, and execution project (V.I.T.A.) are among the essential programs.

E. General Term
All Interns will have a job description with specific ministry assignments. There is opportunity to work with the entire ministry staff and integration is a favored cultural model at APC.

II. Background

A. Rationale
APC has had an outstanding track record of encouraging, coming alongside, equipping and releasing many capable young leaders to serve in Christian ministry. We recognize the unique opportunity to continue to nurture and develop young leaders who will make a spiritual impact across world.  Even within our congregation, we have individuals who are prayerfully considering pursuing full-time Christian service.  We want to provide a significant venue of learning and personal growth to understand the heart and soul of church ministry. We see our potential influence to mentor and prepare many gifted individuals who will be used by God in many strategic places.

B. The Residency Models
  • Interns will have opportunity to learn about all segments of APC life.
  • Interns will rotate through the divisions of Community Life, Equipping, Outreach, and Worship Arts of Evergreen's Ministry Council.
  • The appropriate divisional pastoral staff person will be the immediate supervisor.
  • Interns will serve in a particular division for up to one year, participating in the life of that division.
  • Interns will not be given primary responsibility for any particular ministry, but will work alongside current ministry leaders.
  • Interns will complete a mutually agreed covenant of responsibilities (which may include assigned reading, personal reflections, ministry responsibilities, etc.)
